Got An Idea - We'll Pay You For It

If you’re thinking ‘mate, I gave up history at high school, do I really need to read this’? The answer’s no, you don’t need to. We’d far rather you bought a t-shirt then got tired from reading; but if you’re the kind of person that thinks ‘I wanna see what these blokes are all about’, then by all means, please – read on.

Mr Vintage wasn’t started by some socially inept genius with plenty of coding skills like Facebook was. Not at all; Rob repeated 5th form, 6th form, and then won the Personality of the Year award at Papatoetoe High School in South Auckland, NZ. From there he enrolled in Uni, dropped out, went to a few dance parties, built a website, grew up, got a Holden, stopped going to dance parties, and then set up MrVintageAU. You can read the long version here.

So yeah, Australia...

We had a nice little set up in New Zealand; a nice office in Grey Lynn, a retail store, a screen printer, a couple of digital printers, pleather couches, lots of warehouse space and a bloody good fush n chup shop just up the road. In the days of working out of the basement of Rob’s flat, we’d have bitten your hand off if you offered us that.

I think it was around Easter 2009 that we went to the Gold Coast on a 'business trip'. It was a great trip; Joe threw up, we sat in a spa, Rob gambled, and we all went to the Hard Rock Cafe (we don't have one in NZ, apparently they were going to put one in Ranui but opted instead for a Subway outlet). It was during that trip and because of that Hard Rock Cafe that we started thinking about setting up Mr Vintage Australia. That and all the years we’d watched Alf Stewart parade around our screens on Home and Away. Strewth.

So near the end of 2010 we started planning. We worked on getting licences, got comfortable with wearing v-necks, stopped saying fush, and got started on designing.
